" Eyes of the Spider Still Life "
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Head banging away
with a sung-through nature
erasing narration
as elusive as spaces
between tables
while a faint polonaise
plays with a hip-hop flavor
ranging from folksy-favorites
to thumping raves of betrayal
interpolated as craters
resembling decorated graves
folded and faulted farther north
as feldspar and quartz
uncomfortably far from wars
when pity turns into the torment
of awe in a furious offshore
sounding bullhorns
as spoilers
dangling like cat toys
in the comfortless flat
of a nefarious assassin
with impious disparities
like spidery species
during molting periods
appendages flex
against shedded
exoskeletons
with victims
surrounded in silk
on the debit side
of divine rights
with zero lot lines
as places to hide
from crises
of ideologies
while tugging
on heartstrings
and sucking arteries
acknowledged
by black-clad
activists incanting
natural disasters
in the badlands
of greenhouse gases
and tar-sands
extractions' aftermaths
spread accidentally
feeding stealthily
on bumblebees
in mimicry of extremes
seldom seen
by the majority
with consummate ease
in bursts of speed
on chocolate-and-cream
floating leaves
dabbling legs
gaping fangs
enzymes on prey
sticky base...
