Stoking free speech
truth be told
while taking its toll
skewered and meted out
during crackdowns
on seemingly
circumstantial
meltdowns by hackers
for hire on line
as personal enterprises
vying for spying rites
like pokes in the eye
to our privacy as piracy
being weirded out
by technology geeks
like just-fine-and-dandy
mad hatters
through the looking glass
gazing vacuously
at fair-haired Alices
while mushrooms are scattered
haphazardly in the background
as smoking caterpillars
take hits and sit
atop accordion-pleated
jack-in-the-box lids
along with late rabbits
and rabid queens
hazily making the scene
ready to leap
when the lid springs
onto musical peaks
while wearing
stitched and patched
anomalous burlap bags
fashioned with the manual
dexterity of a tailor's hands
extraordinaire
in an ashen never-never land...
