" No Room to Grow "
by Suzán Jiván

No room to grow
into critical roles
fired into crystal globes
shaken up
with flakes of snow
to say nothing
of rolled snowmen
as high priorities
with eyes made out of coal
for happy jolly souls
below church bell
locations spouting
"holier-than-thou" slogans
depressing organ
pedals and keys
while choirs sing
beside high-kicking
chorus lines
biting corn-cob pipes
heavily breathing
through button-holes
in prosthetic nostrils
of blown noses
broomsticks in hand
running and playing
before they're violently
swept away into poorly-
maintained clogged
storm drains
having been kept at bay
during cascading heat waves
of uncontrolled climate change...
