occasions for wisecracking
in plaid flannel
like alcohol-assisted
wisdom and idiocy
turning out obliviously silly
while juggling the sweet and the nasty
during humorous treatments
between zigzagging laziness
and scrambling ambition
soft-wooded fleshy roots
arranged centrifugally
in conspicuous disks
of single genuses
down to the last meal
of yuk-fests
and gross-out burlesques
foraging in leaf litter
with spiny lizards
under rotting logs
and less-often rocks
after fleeing to avoid capture
midline pink patches
rosemary scrub
sand under shrubs
ping-ponging summers
gone beyond spunky
kept wondering
often at dusk
with greenish gray legs
under cover of vegetation
as grasses and grains flatly reign
across disembodied mosaics
of space-saving shadowy shapes...
