in their larval stage
spread open
cocked slightly
ganging upside down
on unlikely sites
tufted long fine
sandy pine
serpentine
roadsides
clubbed horns
violet in fall
tawny forewings
milkweed
in the morning
male nectarings
moist prairies
tall grasses
wetlands
feathery grace
short range
machine-gun paced
pulsing brain waves
widely contemplated
