A True Rarity

" A True Rarity "

A true rarity
snapping off tails
paler markings on scales

moveable eyelids
legless lizards
mistaken for snakes

head body length
prominent with age
when regenerated

as racers and whip snakes
except during hibernation
in some parts of the range

foraging throughout the day
decidedly isolated
in clumps of vegetation

with heads raised
in rugged terrain
savagely escaping

yanking away
at widely separated
lacerations

after scooting
into unknown places
between adjacent labials

hissing and vibrating
getting ready to strike
boldly outlined

difficult to define
suffused with light
like opposite types

as remnants of juveniles
anally divided by anterior eyes
at the mouth line of a viperous bite...
