like white-jacketed night
spots for acerbically
provocative mixologists

notching up the noir
romping with conceptual artists
pre-occupied by avant-gardists

breath-taking heart stoppers
well beyond the endlessly possible
and unremarkably forgotten

being protected by a smock
beneath a prominent facade
of stained glass and acid-
etched copper

secreted away
without revealing names
like the tale of a nation
on opening day

in plain sight
neatly lettered
in juicy colors

succumbing to oblivion
inked in concentrically
crotchety bracingly punchy
adamantly opaque
gettings in the way

separately framed
cocked at an awkward angle
gone gaga

stacked with cheap products
lost our lease
doing exactly the same thing

deeply mourning
merely toying
underscored
by the caustically
desperate for more

to the point
as walls talking
of all the more
long before
much longer
best haunts

glamorous and swanky
just blocks away
well before gentrification
less than a year later

gone smart crazy
beyond explanation
strip layered
for old times' sake

stipulated all the same
considered naked
like personifications
of marble mosaics
now in place...
