Gouged Out of the Ground

" Gouged Out of the Ground "

by Suzán Jiván, Mom
& Mom-Mom Suzán

Crude is gushing again
seizing chances
at extraction
clamping down
in clearinghouses
of fossilized power
gouged out of the ground

repackaged as, "shouldn't haves"
in millions of barrels
mimicking whiskey flasks
with lid handles of crystalline glass

averse to letting chance
rise or fail, relax or flatten
as visually entrancing
swampy grasslands

like potential tragedies
with differing densities
of rawness and fluidity
as hit-or-miss
copied visions
minutely in unison
with rubbings of tombs...
