" After Last Call, Auk Awakenings "
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-

After last call
caught in the flash
with a pencil-thin mustache
much better off elsewhere
expressed as shock and lament
over super-luxury developments
for the living dead like chess
and checker sets huddled together
as weapons nonetheless
like can-do confidence
gamefully left unabetted
with the intent to sell
not-to-mention innocence
uprooted by punishments
swift and then some
and all the likelihood
little knowing who had to move
intuitively pursuing city views
like Rorschach blots of promise
while on safari cheek and jowl
popping up on the ground
from miles around
as smart pop-heavy soundtracks
in fairly even balance
clearly gathered
around caramelized carrots
and little neck clams
spouting seasonal cocktails
mixed in house
tellingly vibrant centers
in recognition commensurate
to tufted puffins on paper
outsourced as auk awakenings...
