as an actual scramble
fuming and flailing
flashing a hint--
just a hint--of a grin

wrinkle upon wrinkle
seeming to linger
in the littlest league
of fire breathing

cut and dried
like a quantifiable
pleasing on the ears
as no easy feat

while getting up to speed
with strategies like cleats
in university varsities
licked by riddles of gullibility

as a slip and a pick
in a dubious decision
with still a scintilla
in the final minutes
of a dizzying distancing

signaling with semaphores
of mother/daughter pinafores
with the sheer force of a distress call
like an aborted throwaway song
settling the score by humming along...
