"Of the Past
and From the Future"
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-

Of the past
and from the future
which may
or may not happen
like catalogued chances
and customary answers
of practicality
opposed to romantic
as invented alphabets
carved in alabaster
and on fragments
of inscribed slabs
likened to the dustiest
and driest
of historical writings
post setting out to sea
harvesting shellfish
crushed into colorful dyes
of the all-too-familiar
like calamities in crimson
toppled pomp
and majesty
striking passages
theatrical masks
less exacting fare
mimes musicians
and dancers
fallen and still standing...
